Student nurses need to be payed

Today im going to use the power of my blog to raise awerness of something that is very important to my family and i imagine so many more.

My little sister Paige always wanted to be a nurse and we all teased her because one time she fainted at a show with blood in. (She is going to full deny it and hate me for saying it but id like to remind her i know worse stories)

But she went on proved us all wrong. She joiend St Johns Ambulance and has just passed her first year studying nursing.

Now to the important bit, student nurses do not get payed for the hours the put in on placement. So our Paigey is working 37.5 hours a week for free, as well as doing any uni work she needs AND then on top of that she is working weekends at mcdonalds and picking up over night shifts so she has money to live. I know student nurses have to clock so many hours to be able to pass but still all that sounds a bit much for one person.

I have worked at mcdonalds and i can tell you their over nights are rubbish. They would leave me feeling disoriented, my panic attacks got worse, exhausted, angry, no appatite and there was always a wierd taste in my mouth no one could explian....

Lets all be honest would you want the person whos helping treat you to feel all that?

But they have no choice becuase they need money to survive. They have rent to pay and food to buy and travel to uni or home. When paige comes homes she picks up as many shift as she can in her local store so she has a bulk of money to go back to uni with.

So what we are supporting now is a petition to help student nurses earn minimum wage so they dont have to run round like a headless chicken. We would really apprecate if people could add a signiture it only takes 2 minutes. At the end of the day in a few years time these are the people who will be caring for you if your ill or injured!
