8 steps to rainbow hair

Leeds Pride was at the weekend so in honour I’m going to tell you about the time I dyed my sister’s hair rainbow.

Paige had shoulder length brown hair and we decided to do the bottom half. It took me about 5 hours to do so book out a full day.

1. To start with you’re going to need to bleach the full bottom half of the hair. Do this in thin sections to make sure it’s all covered. No one wants brown zebra strips.

2. Each person’s hair will lift at different speeds depending on the hair and the temperature of the room. To test the hair, get a damp cotton pad and wipe a little of the bleach off. If it’s not ready just smudge a bit more on the hair and give it a bit longer.

 3. When it comes to washing it out make sure you do it with coolish water because the scalp will be sensitive. Wash it with shampoo but try not to condition if you can get away with it.

 4. Now section the wet hair in to as many sections you want. We did 5 different colours. Make sure each section is clipped up. I cannot stress how much you don’t want these sections to touch throughout the next bit.

 5. We used Directions to do Paiges bright colours and I would recommend them. Cover each section with the chosen colour and wrap with tinfoil.

 6. Directions take like 40min - hour to take so you’re going to need to waste some time now. If you want to speed it up, you can try putting a hair dryer on it.

 7. We’ve reached the washing out part and this is a pain in the bum. DONT FORGET THE COULORS CAN’T TOUCH EACH OTHER. You will need to wash and condition each section individually because even while washing out the colours can run in to each other and ruin it.

8. The dye is washed out so it’s time to blow dry and I’m going to say it - dry the hair in individual coloured sections. Trust me even slightly damp the colours can ruin each other.

And now your done and dry and you are that weirdo with 5 colours in her hair. If you see what I did there.
